Cashmere Care Guidelines
CARING FOR YOUR CASHMERE
Here are a few tips and guidelines to ensure your jumpers get the best possible care.
Our cashmere is combed from the goat’s undercoat and is one of the finest and highest-quality fibres in the world. This commitment to quality means cashmere requires a little more attention than other fibres; if cared for properly, your garment can last for many years.
WASHING GUIDELINES
Our cashmere can be hand washed or dry cleaned; please check the care label for the instructions unique to your garment before proceeding.
Some of our cashmere is dry clean only due to the dyeing process required to achieve the vibrant colours in the garment. It is possible colour may transfer if these garments are hand washed, so we advise dry cleaning to avoid this. If the care label recommends hand washing, follow these simple guidelines:
YOU WILL NEED:
Bucket / sink full of lukewarm water (below 30°C)
Detergent formulated for cashmere, wools and silk
STEP 1
Turn your garment inside out.
STEP 2
Submerge garment in lukewarm water with cashmere / wool / silk detergent.
STEP 3
Allow the garment to soak. Submerge your hand to gently swill the water (check detergent guidelines and wear gloves if recommended). Do not rub, wring or stretch the garment.
STEP 4
Pour the water out of the bucket or drain the water from sink.
STEP 5
Rinse the garment through with clean water until all the soapy water has gone.
STEP 6
Gently press the garment against the sides of the bucket or sink to get rid of excess water. Be careful not to squeeze or wring the knitwear.
STEP 7
Short spin (2 minutes) at 400 rpm maximum. Ensure the machine is set to low spin and no heat. Do not tumble dry.
STEP 8
Dry flat by laying a clean towel on the floor, and the garment on top of this. Reshape the knitwear whilst damp and keep it away from direct heat or sunlight.
TIP: If your jumper is still heavy with water, roll it up in the towel to remove the excess water.
STEP 9
Steam the garment to remove any creases. Do not iron, instead hold the iron half an inch from the cashmere to steam.
DO NOTS
Cashmere is a delicate natural fibre. Please follow the guidelines and do not…
- Do not use hot water
- Do not use regular fabric softener
- Do not rub, wring, stretch or squeeze your garment
- Never hang your knitwear
- Do not tumble dry
- Do not iron
PILLING
Over time, cashmere garments will naturally form small balls (pills) on the surface. This is inevitable as cashmere is a natural material and some loose fibres will make their way to the surface. Pills can be easily removed by hand or by using a cashmere comb to keep your garment looking new.
To comb your garment, lay it flat and lightly brush the comb over the surface, paying special attention to the areas most affected by pills - usually at the hips, underarms and shoulders where the garment is prone to rubbing.
STORING YOUR JUMPER
As a natural fibre, cashmere is susceptible to damage from moths. If you find evidence of moths on your knitwear, we advise freezing your garments. Wrap the cashmere in acid-free tissue paper and put it in a plastic bag, freeze overnight and then defrost slowly.
To prevent moth damage, we suggest storing your cashmere in a breathable, zip garment bag and along with cedar balls. Ensure your knitwear is clean before putting it away; check the care label and either hand wash or dry clean as instructed. About once a month, it is recommended to air your knitwear by shaking it out.
Hanging your knitwear can stretch and distort the shape, so we recommend always storing your garments folded. We do not advise storing your cashmere in direct sunlight as this can also affect the colour.
